Welcome to American History with Mr. Whitlark!
In this course we will study American History from pre-colonial (pre-Columbian societies) times to the onset of the Civil War. The study of US History builds on historical and geographical perspectives gained from the elementary and middle school study of North Carolina and the United States. The study of World History in grade nine enables students to place the United States in a world context as well. The economic and political perspectives and historical foundations gained from the study of Civics and Economics prepares students for the examination of our nation’s history.
This course will emphasize the economic, social, and political developments of the nation state. We will do this while working to highlight the individual experiences of people within the greater context of history. Students will have a chance to “do history” as we examine specific case studies, working with primary sources. This course concludes with a state mandated End of Course Test.
